Getting a cam gear off without damaging the thrust plate behind it can be a tricky situation, even in a press. I'd suggest purchasing another cam gear and thrust plate if the budget will accomodate it, rather than trying to recycle the existing gear. That's particularly true if it's already been on and off another cam previously. They're intended to be a one-time installation. Chances are somebody in the swap meet forum can use the big-journal cam with the timing gear already installed.
