I prefer the oil filler cap at the front. Reason being the engine sits slightly high at the front. Gravity.

I rebuilt a 1954 235 engine and sold it for a decent profit a few years back. I was very surprised at the way Chevy built that one year only motor. Open slits in the valve covers (letting dirt in like the older models), the oil pump/screen system is different as is the oil pan. Turns out, they were using parts from the older model years I guess until stock ran out. A very nice motor, but very different from later years. I cant remember what else was different, but it was a little different.
