I bought a new sending unit for a 86 full size Blazer tank that I installed in my 49 Sub. This was in May of 05. It does not have the internal fuel pump. There are 2 electrical connections on the sending unit. Naturally since it is now 2 years ago and my memory leaves a lot to be desired I can't remember which terminals are which. I hooked up what I think is the ground wire. It has a spade connector on the unit and I attached the other end to the truck frame after grinding the paint off in order to get a good ground. This wire came already made up with terminals on both ends. It was black and about 16 gage so I assumed it was a ground wire. The other terminal is a small brass (or brass plated) stud projecting out of the top of the sending unit. It looks like it would take some sort of push connector since the stud has no threads. Would this be the connection that goes to the gas gage? I found the receipt for the sending unit and tomorrow I will have my NAPA guy look it up and see if he knows how it should be wired.
