You received some good advice here. If the cables are right, connections are clean and everything is up to snuff, a 6v system should function with no problems. What I'm wondering about is I noticed in your signature that you're running a '57 235. If you're running the '57 starter/flywheel then it's made for 12v, not 6v. Just curious.
