I have a 49 pickup, I was told that it had been converted to a 12volt system and I have noticed that there is a resister on the block that I assume keeps from frying the points, but I have lost all my dash lights and my gas gauge is pegging full when I turn on the key. I have been reading some of the problems that guys are having with their sending units and hope that mine may be different. Do I need to put a resister somewhere in line to keep my gauge from pegging full all the time or do I just start checking out grounding problems, float problems and wiring problems? If I do need a resister, where exactly does it need to go, I am sure with the heat that is generated with these resisters, that will be a big concern. So I would appreciate any advice on this gas gauge situation, Thanks.
