Yeah.. all that discussion, on a discussion forum... those people really should know better.

I still don't know what is so difficult about fixing a motor. You read the manual, a lot of times the fix is right there.. if X, do Y. If its more than that you can post online or find a shop to ask. People really like to talk about this stuff and are happy to help.
Other than needing specific machines (mills, lathes, grinders, boring machines) etc it really is as simply as unbolt X, bolt on Y.
Sometimes you do need to take a measurement, or torque to a specific value, and in the past those tools were very expensive. Not a days a micrometer, dial indicator or torque wrench can be bought for $20 each at any good hardware/tool store.
Let me ask.. what is the most difficult thing that people are 'scared' of?
For me the camshaft is the worst. You need a special tool to pull/seat the bearings. But other than that I find nothing so difficult that it would deter me from a DIY repair.
