I do like many others. I do all the work, except machine work. This way, I know the care was taken to put it together properly and seal it up tight. If something goes wrong, it is my fault. Before assembly, I check the machine shops work to ensure parts fit properly.

My machine shop talked me out of hardened valve seats, I deferred. Stock 216 bored .30 over with aluminum pistons. Original babbit all good and got .002 clearance by just removing shims. Many of the rods still have a shim or two installed to maintain minimum clearance...amazing! Can't wait to start her up for the first time.
