Most engine self engine assembly jobs are guess work. Most DIY mechanics have no clue about precision measurements required to do the job properly, or why its necessary, I think theres a few automotive shops that fall into that same category too I've heard some horror stories.
Boo. Maybe true, but I believe to think that people who attempt engine assembly know what they are doing and know what to look for. Research is easy and almost any decent DIY'er can rebuild an engine. It is not rocket science. Just make sure the machine shop did not make a mistake and go from there. If in doubt, ask ask and ask some more.
