For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the distributors on these ol thangs require a seperate coil to provide the spark, it hooks to the distributor via the center wire on the cap - the condensor lives inside the distributor as part of the spark control, and the points are the contacts in the distributor that open and close to put spark to plugs as the rotor gets to each terminal point ..... a generator is the old version of an alternator, and it takes a seperate external box, the regulator, to control its output, whereas yer alternator will be internally regulated the \'engine electrical\' part of the shop manual has lots of pictures and explanations Bill | | |
