The problem I have when using a small compressor to do small blasting jobs is WATER! As mentioned above, those little compressors have to run constantly, and even using the small HF blasters, I get so much water through the air line that it wets the sand and clogs the tips.
Tad bit humid in Alabama I am betting

.. do you have an air dryer in your compressor line?
I have a small pressurized blaster which works great for small projects. Here in the arid high plains humidity is low, and an inline air dryer does the job just fine.
Deve, where can you find this #1 super fine silica sand? I didn't see anything labeled as such at my local Home Depot or Lowes.
I'd recomend not using silica sand. I use nickle slag, it doesn't have the health issues associated with silicosis,
http://www.lung.org/lung-disease/silicosis/ , and nickle slag is green, so if you blast in your yard it disappears in the grass.
