Hello,
I'm in need of the grommets for the cables and gauges through the firewall. All the suppliers have a 4 hole version they say is correct but, my originals are a 3 hole and a 2 hole. The hole in the firewall sheet metal is 1" and the outside dia. of grommet is 1 1/4"
Has anyone found these available?
I could use the 4 hole ones but, they're just not correct/original.
Does any rubber supplier offer a way to have these made or maybe a solid plug of correct size which I could punch holes into myself?

What are the three cables/leads/lines that go through that grommet on your truck?

Can you post a link to a photo of the location; or, can you mail a photo to me (I'll post it for you - my address is in my profile - click on my name on the left)?

Both holes are 1" dia located to the drivers side of the top of the tranny bump in the firewall. The assembly manual shows them on page sect.1 sheet 3.19 with note for left drive. Will try to post a link.

The 2hole has the choke and trottle cables thru it.
The 3 hole has speedo cable, oil capillary tube and water temp tube running thru it.

Tim is the '54 Guru here and I'll bow to his decision. But it looks to me that you are correct. I looked at that same diagram and convenced myself that I was correct with one hole for the speedo and four holes for everything else. RATS.

According to your pics, the three-hole grommet is easy. Buy a one-hole speedo grommet and drill two small holes for the oil and temp tubes. It will look exactly like your original.

For the two-hole grommet, I don't remember if you have to punch out the front side of the holes in the four-hole grommet. That would be too easy. You would just leave two holes unpunched. Otherwise you could fill the extra holes with liquid rubber used for electrical connections - but it would probably look crappy.

Yep - here's another unrestored '54 with a two-hole grommet for Choke and Throttle, and a three-hole grommet for speedo, oil, and temp.

Anybody know if any of the suppliers sell a 4-hole grommet that is not punched all the way through, so that only two holes could be opened?

BTW - notice the speedo cable is metal sheathed, not plastic, and that the cowl vent drain hose is cocked at the correct 45-deg away from the plugs and valve cover.

Hey Denny - do you think that is original factory paint on the cowl vent drain hose?

Yep, this is my '50 and I know the firewall is the original paint.
The city painted it red outside because they were using it for
their fire truck:

All of the original ones I've seen had the rubber drain painted
so it obvously was installed when it went to paint. I touched
the '54 for more than a year and haven't really done any cleaning
so I don't know what's under all that dust and dirt.
