If the parts are to worn for that you need a bushing driver. A socket will work sometimes. The C clamp type ball joint tool is the best way but not many have one.

Just don't let it get out of line or pieces start flying in all directions.
I used to install walking-beam bushings in Hendrickson suspension systems where the diameter of the sleeve around the center bushing was approximately 6". It was all a 50-ton hydraulic press wanted to handle to get one of them moving, and progress was a series of 1/4" jumps over an 8" total length. Installing two walking beam bushings occupied most of an 8-hour shift AFTER the beam was removed from the rear axle assembly!

I think you'd have to make an adapter to work with the spring bushings (if someone has successfully used it with a spring bushing, let us know). Here is the $5 bushing removal tool described in the thread at the link I gave above. The tool is a stouter version of the DYI Bushing Puller Tech Tip. Taking out the old bushings was a piece of cake. I really didn't want to spend $90 for a ball joint press and decided I didn't want to chance a cheap one from Harbor Freight. Then DUH!!! I work for the county so I borrowed one from the local county highway shop. Popped them out this morning and pressed in two new ones. Without the press I don't think I would have gotten them out. Even with the press it was a chore. Now on to the next task.
