Fifty years ago I used to ride in this truck when I was a summer camper. The truck took us to canoe trips, field trips, and every Saturday we got our allowance and went into the drugstore to load up on 10 minutes worth of candy! Five years ago we bought the camp that we run today as a resort rental. I knew where the truck was, but couldn't get the owner to part with it. He kept saying he was going to restore it. Ha-Ha. When his wife finally convinced him to give it to me in October of 2008, it had been sitting in a field for over 25 years, up to the frame in mud. The wrecker got it to roll out and by the beginning of June 2009 I was able to re-create the box on the back and drive it into a reunion of former campers. Still have a speedometer and gas gauge to fix, but it's a real nostalgic piece up here and special for me.

Thanks - if you're ever in Manistee, MI, check in with Dan Kowolski at Kowolski Body Shop. He knew what was going to need work on the body before he ever saw the actual truck. Probably should have just replaced the engine - it had been replaced in the early 60's and was badly re-built in the mid 60's. This winter and next spring, I'll work on a removable canvas top and side curtains and better benches in the back. It really helps to have original photos of the same truck from the early 50's for paint and accessories - plus my own memories from the 60's.

Welcome Dave, nice score all right. I'm not sure why some owners don't sell for years and years and finally when it's almost too far gone, they give it away.

Good luck,

Leo

Thanks for adding my 42 to the gallery. I added four original photos of the same truck from the 50's and one from about 1970 to my FLICKR site. THat truck was a workhorse to withstand just over 30 summers of boys packed in the back.
