Hello Guys,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a source for the 55-59 suburban floor matting using the original patterned lines? I've searched for a few years and keep coming up dry. This is my LAST item to find and my burb will be complete. Any help?

I hesitate to answer a question about a series of trucks that I know nothing about. But, since no one else has answered:

If by any chance the matting material you are referring to is linoleum, and if the linoleum is brown/tan in color, you might want to check with Battleship Linoleum.

If your material is linoleum, I'll add some more information.

Are you asking about the front floor covering or something for the back? I was not aware that any of the TF panels or burbs came with anything in back but a painted wood floor. I've seen the front rubber mat at several suppliers. You can even get the sissel backing, but I wouldn't want to use it; it holds water!

the TF panels had painted plywood with skid strips, the burbs had the battleship lino Tim linked, no skids, altho' that place prolly doesn't have the "correct" pattern

The link I gave sells linoleum for use in restorations. They have the correct thickness in the brown/tan color. It is sold in flat, non-grooved sheets/rolls. Unfortunately, they do not have available a black linoleum, the color of the 54/55 Suburbans' rear-floor "mat". The linoleum in Advance-Design Suburbans was glued to a plywood floor.

The owner of Battleship Linoleum will send you samples and a very well-written article on how the lines/grooves (patterns) may be put into the linoleum using a home-made jig and a router.

Hey thanks for the reply guys, no wonder I could never find the floor matting because I never even thought it was linoleum. I've been looking for rubber matting instead. Battleship Linoleum is a nice option to have... I better dust off my router I have a lot of lines to cut. Thanks for the help.

Hey Pee Wee: Still working on my '58 Carryall, but couldn't resist a reply. The black battleship linoleum should be available in 80" black at Restoration Supply Co., Escondido , CA. You can probably drive over and pick it up. (760-741-4014)

The linoleum page from Restoration Supply Company (mentioned by Mark, above). It will cost you about $300 (if your area is similar to a 47-55 Suburban), or maybe much more, if your length is greater than 78".

What color is your matting? Be careful buying black, if you want to route grooves into it. Several years ago it was impossible to obtain plain-black linoleum to match the original thickness of the material used in a 47-55 Suburban. At that time all linoleum was imported (Europe/Scotland to Canada to USA) and all suppliers had run out of the thicker black linoleum and had no plans to restock. And, even the thinnest-stock black-linoleum was being discontinued. I know this because I was given the end of the last roll in the storehouse of a North American importer.

Maybe the move to "green" materials has or will bring back this "natural" no-allergenic floor covering.

This vendor advertises regularly in Hemmings.

The measurements on my 1958 Carryall are 66 1/2" w x 93" long.Doesn't that come out to 62 sq. feet? At $14.00 a sq. ft., the price is $868.00 plus freight. Then you have to use the router. Someone let us know the thickness available thru Restoration Supply and what the proper thickness should be. The linoleum may also be available thru Modern Linoleum in Toronto and Woodbridge, Ontario. (905-856-0600)

Thanks for the measurement, Mark. I did not know dimensions for 1958 vehicles.

I get about 43 sq feet by your dimensions. But by your dimensions and the fact that the sheet of material is 78" wide, a person would need 78" by about 94" (I'd buy 96") - about 51 sq feet? (I do not trust my math - please correct me)

If you look at the link I gave above to the "linoleum page" you'll find the thickness (1/8") and cost per square foot ($8). For a 47-55 Suburban, the 1/8" thickness (3 mm ?) should work fine (and be route-able).

Where did the $14/sq ft come from?

I bet you'll get a much better price in Canada - imported from Scotland. I'm going to call Modern Linoleum about black material. Thanks for the number.

The $14.00 per sq. ft. came from the Restoration Supply web page.I'm going to measure the thickness of my linoleum this week and I'll report back.There is also an $8.00 price and two widths, 78" and 80".

Wow you guys kick butt thank you so much for the the nice info! I think I better do a couple of practice runs with my router on some plywood and I have an old formika (sp?) countertop that I can use too before cutting into my new black linoleum after I get it. You guys are great, thanks again!
