Hey folks, when installing a new dual master cylinder(under the floor of '48 1/2t, SB, chevy)and install new brake lines, do you ,can you order pre-bent lines for the front and rear or do you bend your own ?

If pre-bent lines are available , does any body have the part numbers ? grin

I have all new wheel cylinders and flex lines goin to the wheels , just need the hard lines 3/16" and 1/4". Thanx :confused:

Had to bend my own. Especially if you have made any modifications to the original, such as IFS, or more modern rear.

Yes sir coach-frank, I'm installing 5 lug disk in the front and newer open shaft 10 bolt in the rear with new dual master cyl. so I guess I'll be a bending. Thought about using a newer model truck like a '72 sb 1/2 t because thats when they first came out with disk brake front ends ?
and the frame length is about the same. Maybe someone has done this and will clue me in. Thanx

Bent my own too. Make sure you use a good, name brand double flare set to make your ends. Get a good bender too.

I have a good bender , but its the person behind the bender I'm not sure about. Looks like a rocket scientist will have to understand the instructions.........Maybe thats why I never became a trim carpenter. lol

I bought the already made stock w/ double flares. They come in 8'' to 60''. bent them up and cut where needed. Then took them to a brake shop w/ one of those $400.00 double flaring machines. W/in 5 minutes they had flared all my new one ended pipes and I was ready to install them on the truck.
NOTE:
I also bought long (about10'') springs (@ .30 each) from a surplus steel shop and stretched them longer (about 24'') and slipped them over the brake piping b4 the ends were re-flared. It helps protect the piping from rocks and looks good. mounted them all w/ rubber holders.
the brake shop told me they charge $12.00/ft for the same.

Here's a Question that may be dumb. I have noticed that stainless brake lines are a lot cheaper at boat trailer suppliers. Is it safe to use their lines in my 53 1\2ton

Hey Jim, I was just getting ready to ask you what the reason was behind those springs? didnt know if it was for cooling or looks or what? Can you tell me if when I come off of the prop. valve do I need all of those spirals , because if that is for looks , where I'm mounting mine only the road and rocks could c-it. lol I will definately use the springs on mine. Thanx 4 tha help . everybody.

JTEAL2345 I have heard that a lot of things are cheeeper at those suppliers , like pressure hoses and brake lines, but I forget about them when comes time to buy them. I dont visit them as much as the auto parts folks, but the lines should be the same if not stronger so you won't have to row back in.( kinda like aeroplane parts)I wouldnt want one to break on me up there.

no not for cooling but just rocks.
@.30 each I just couldn't go wrong, besides the brake guy and two other catalogs sell them for big $$ bucks.

Remember: when you do the rear axle's piping KEEP the 3/16'' lines behind the axle (to the rear) so when the tow truck guy shows up w/ his big nasty hook and puts it around the axle, it does not foul/crush the brake line. The front will get hiden inside the cross member.
