For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | Install manual trans - stops 1/8" from bell housing Bornco 10/17/2026 8:21 PM
We are trying to install our rebuilt SM318 manual transmission onto our 1960 Chevy Apache, and the transmission stops about 1/8th of an inch from the bell housing.
We installed a new pilot bearing with a new clutch and pressure plate. The trans goes in about 1/4 of an inch before feeling a little resistance. We can swivel the trans back and forth and wiggle it to about 1/8th of an inch before it seems to not move closer.
A friend had the same issue with their 1982 Chevy truck and eventually took it to a transmission shop to get it installed. The shop claimed the pilot bearing was put in crookedly.
Has anyone else run into this problem?

Read More | | Where to buy Good Clutch Fork Boot Bornco 10/17/2026 6:29 PM
OK, long story short...
I started the process of rebuilding the manual transmission on my 1960 Chevy Apache back in September of 2025. I pulled the trans, ordered and installed a new clutch after cutting the original flywheel. After a long, hard ordeal of finding all of the needed parts, 13 months later I am ready to install the trans back. I get under the truck, and the new Clutch Fork Boot (Bought at LMC) looks like it is 20 years old!! Has anyone found a better replacement Clutch Fork Boot???

I got this a few years ago from a parts store that was closing down, There was no identification part number on the box. Do the dimensions match a Chevrolet pressure plate? The face is 10 inches across and the bolt holes are 11.5 inches apart from center to center.

The 2004 rear end came from a salvage yard truck that had been there for a few years. Before I put it on the road I would like to replace the gear oil. I find no plug by which to drain it, and the owners manual in my 2007 truck just says if it leaks, repair it. How can I drain it without removing the cover?

Read More | | The improved condenser... Jon G 10/17/2026 1:44 PM
In my opinion the last thing you need to worry about is the condenser in your points ignition system. But if you buy any condenser other than these, you may have plenty to worry about as those are either made in China or India (if you have an English Ford). And those are very prone to erratic performance and failure...some are not working the moment you take them out of the box I've been told. Others last only a while and they are likely to cause your points to burn and fail. I don't want anyone stranded because of a bad condenser.
This was a project unique to The Stovebolt Site and this is the only place they're sold. All profits from this are used to fund other Stovebolt projects.
The price of these is $16 each delivered in the USA. They have been designed to provide between 200,000 and 300,000 operating hours, so you should never have to replace it. With each you'll get a new stainless steel phillips head screw and a new stainless steel internal star lock washer. These are designed to fit in the typical Stovebolt or other inline 6 distributor. If you want to use one in a V8 application, a tractor, crop duster, etc please measure the wire from the condenser you have and let me know. It will take an additional day or two but I can adapt one for you.
If questions or if you wish to purchase, please send a PM.

Hello All,
Sorry to do this, but Biermann is now JoergK,
I still drink bier (beer), but haven't made any for four years or more. Getting a 30L keg of a crisp pils is so much easier.
I hope you don't mind and if you do, have a Bier (or beer), whatever!
JoergK.

My 66 C10 has the Economy (cheaper) heater - defroster assembly. I was able to get the top off of the under hood assembly and remove the heater core. How do I remove the blower? Do I have to remove the assembly under the dash? Thanks for any advice.

Read More | | 1955 Chevrolet Cameo - Tennessee Benefit Auction Closes Oct 27 Gdads51 10/15/2026 11:14 PM .png) * Special Announcement * Stovebolt would like to take this opportunity to alert our "Community" to this on-going very special charity auction event of a beautifully restored 1955 Chevrolet Cameo 3100 to benefit the Mustard Seed Ranch. The Mustard Seed Ranch is a Christ-centered nonprofit near Cookeville, Tennessee, providing safe, loving homes for children ages 5 - 17 who need stability, care, and a place to belong. Definitely a worthy cause that the proceeds of this auction will go to in supporting the mission of the Ranch. I've attached just these few pictures of the truck offered at auction for your viewing pleasure and interest, but highly recommend you click the auction link above and see all they have on the offered truck. The truck looks almost fresh off the showroom floor, with a clearly very high level of attention to detail spent on it's restoration. Please note that Bidding Is Open Now (just click the link above)! - but ends Tue, Oct 27, 2026 at 10:00:00 am CT. The Stovebolt Collective wishes the Mustard Seed Ranch the very best in finding this truck a new home and that its sale will help meet their needs/goals in supporting their mission. Perhaps there's a Stovebolter out there that could provide this truck with a new Stovebolt home?
