I am putting a 6.0 in a s10 frame with a 49 Burb body.
This post question is about mounting the motor in the s10 frame. Are the motor mounts symmetrical on the 6.0? It seams that when the motor is in the frame the motor sits at an angle. And to level the motor, one mount has to be taller than the other. Is 1 mount higher than the other on the block? It appears the frame where the motor mounts is like all the others at the cross member.

I assume that your working with a LS motor. They are making motor mounts to put LS motors in older chassis.

It is a LS motor and I have the plates that bolt to the block to locate the motor to the correct location using the standard three bolt motor mounts. I am wondering if the block is different at the mount locations. Like if one would need a longer frame mount on one side.

Which are the plates you have to locate the motor to the "correct location"? Are they specifically meant for an AD truck on an S-10 frame, or are they for an S-10? The reason I ask is because those 2 applications need the engine in much different locations.

It's possible you might need a longer frame mount on one side, I don't recall how symmetric the S-10 crossmember is. Since you have the engine, it seems logical to check the parts you have and see where the issue is.

What the plates do is locate the LS motor in the location where a small block would sit.
The problem I had is a friend kept making frame mounts to mount the motor when I had bought a EZ Swap kit that included frame mounts to locate a v8 engine in the right location on a s10 frame. The friend said he had to make them because the LS motor had irregular or uneven motor mount locations on the block, like one side wasn't like the other like regular small blocks.
But by my measurements and naked eye I couldn't see any difference in the mount locations in either the motor or the frame.
I've known this guy for 30 yrs so I believe him but I can't find anyone that confirms what he is saying.

What did Ed at E-Z chassis swap say, he usually has a good handle on that stuff. My understanding is the 6.0 drops right on the 5.3 mounts just fine.

I realize what the plates do, I was asking if they're for use with an S-10 body or AD body on an S-10 frame. The two applications are much different.

I don't believe that the LS motors are non-symmetric. That makes no sense.

The plates were actually intended to be used on a 68 Chevy Truck.
And I agree it makes no sense. They certainly appear to be symmetrical.

If the plates were to be used with a 68 what's the sense in using them for your truck? Since you're doing a custom installation anyways, you might as well just start from scratch?

What engine did the S10 frame have it originally? V6 (2.8 or 4.3) or 4 cylinder? That could very well be part of the issue, the mounts in the frame not lining up properly.

I don't know about the s10 swap kit, but I have a 6.0lt. if your thinking about building your own; put your engine where it needs to be. we moved back until the heads hit the firewall. the 2holes infront of my crossmember are for the stock V8 mounts. heres how we did it:

if you build your own

make what you need

when all else fails

radiator clearance is what your really after

I have mounted a 6.0 liter (in a '70 Impala) and the mounts are on the same location on each side of the block. Even a good, 30 year friend can be wrong, sometimes...
Do a google search, plenty of results, such as : http://www.s10v8.com/store/LS1-LSX-Mounts-Headers-for-S10-V8-Conversion
Also, try asking your questions on the LS1Tech forum, they have done everything with these engines!

Just make sure you don't put the engine where it needs to be for the S-10, as it will be in the wrong place for your burb.
