For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 47 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 47 | I recently purchased a 49 GMC 100, original tag shows FC101 9036. Previous owner tore the truck down completely and said the original gas tank brackets were on the frame, but the gas tank was missing when he bought it.
Cab is all original and has no provisions for a cab gas tank.
My question is: Did GMC trucks carry over the frame tank to 49?
My understanding was that this was a 47-48 only thing. Unless, it was a late 48 and got title as a 49. Previous owner claimed it as 49 1/2, but its not listed on the title that way. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | According to this chart FC101 9036 is a 1947 serial number. GMCs are certainly welcome here but you should also check out oldGMCtrucks.com | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | chrispy, For more information on dates (besides cletis's helpful post), check out your head and block date code (also from the oldGMCtrucks.com site). You cannot be sure your engine is original, but the dates codes will be interesting. What is the engine serial number? Do you have an original title or registration? The ID code on that will also be interesting. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 934 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 934 | For what it's worth I have a 1950 Chevy 1 ton truck with a hydraulic lift flat bed. The tank is mounted on the exterior of the frame. There is no cut-out for a filler neck on the cab itself for an internal gas tank behind the seat.
