I am just about to install the engine in the frame, rather than experiment I was wondering if someone can tell me if you can put the engine back in with the tranny installed to it, or is it easier to do them separately, also do the splash pans that go at the bottom side of the engine to frame go in first or after the engine is in thanks very much

Yes, you can put the engine back in with the tranny installed to it. But, I'd say yes to: "is it easier to do them separately".

The 47-55 Shop Manuals say the same thing, but I like to remove/install the engine/transmission separately.

Wait to hear from people who have first-hand experience with a 46-era engine/transmission assembly. They will also know about the splash pans.

On my bare frame, no cab,I put my engine in the frame then put the transmission in. I don't know if it would have worked better with them together but it went well separate. I have an overhead crane in my shop and it really makes a difference on doing jobs so it might differ for you. I would do it again the same way, separate. Much easier lifting that way. You have a solid foundation for putting the clutch/pressure plate in and then also solid for putting the transmission in.

My splash pans are in real bad shape and most likely will not go back in. Two reasons, real bad shape and they would take extensive modification to fit with the 235 replacement for the 216 in my 41. Dave
