I am doing a 230 to a 283 engine swap in my 63 c10 .Can I get away with runing a 6 cylinder 10 clutch with the 283.I was going to have the flywheel resurfaced and get a new clutch and pressure plate.I am not going to be hauling anthing heavy or drag racing this truck.I really did not want buy a new flywheel if I did not have to.If I do have to go to an 11 inch clutch is there any differance in the bellhousing on 6 cylinder trucks vs the eight ?
Thank You for your advice

Hy Longhorn, 10" clutches were standard on up to one ton trucks for years, and with the use you describe you shouldn't have any problems. If the bellhousing in question is already in the truck, then everything should bolt up okay, I seem to remember some of the six cylinder bellhousings had a smaller transmission pilot hole, but as I said if its already bolted into the truck, should be no problem, hope that helps.

As 3B says you should be fine. Less pedal pressure with the smaller pressure plate should make it nicer to drive in stop and go traffic.

What you want to do is stock for many applications. The bell housing will bolt right up to both engine and transmission if it is there now. the rear mount of the engine is the bell housing anyway. This would be a great time to switch to a cable type throttle out a mid '70s and up C-10 to eliminate linkage problems.

best wishes,

Les
