a little help please. I'm stumped. I have removed gas tank sender unit to replace gasket so I though I should check unit. hooked up guage to positive on battery..hooked top of sending unit to other side of guage and ground wire to negative on battery. Gas guage reads about 1/4. when I raise float lever up which should read full it actually reads less than 1/4 on guage. any thoughts???

You say that you hooked the gauge to the positive of the battery...does this mean the gauge is out of the truck? The case of the gauge needs to be grounded too.

Your wiring should be; power to fuel gauge. Wire from gauge to sender. Body of sender AND case of fuel gauge hooked to ground. Try that, but don't blow yourself up!

careful, I had problems with my gauge and found that the the connection from the float to the "sending unit" was cracked, ended up picking up a new one from ecklers for $50, if your having problems do yourself a favor and replace the sending unit
