Fellow StoveBolt members.
I am restoring a 1941 Chevy truck model AK ( 1/2 ton). This truck was purchased fully taken apart and all in parts.( Canadian Made )
The box that came with the truck has 79 1/2 + inch long sides with a 49 1/2 inch wide tail gate. The pipe on the top is about 1 3/4 inch diameter on the sides, end plate and tail gate.
I purchased what I was told is an "old original" box from a donor truck but once home measured 78 1/4 long sides and tail gate measures 58 inches wide. Tailgate seemed to not match the rest of the box parts? The pipe size measures 1 1/8 inch diameter on sides, front plate and tailgate. The stake sides supports are smaller than my original ones. Both boxes are about 22 ++ inches high

Can anyone help me understand what I have received with the original truck and what I have purchased?

If anyone has the actual box lengths/widths and top pipe diameter that my truck box should be I would greatly appreciate the info.

Thanks in advance

I hope page 22 in this link helps a little bit? GM Heritage Center 1941

If the tailgate you got is 58 inches wide that's not off a GM half-ton or 3/4 ton of this era. I can measure my top pipe diameter and box width when I get home. I can't give you a reliable measurement on box side length though, someone else will have to chime in with that. If your sides are 79.5" long, they sound about right to give you that 78" inside length shown in the manual I linked to.

Can you post photos of what you have? That might also help.

Thanks for your reply. I would appreciate knowing your top pipe diameter if possible.
I will post some pics. of the difference in boxes once I get back out to workshop.

My apologies, I planned to do it last night but I spent last night in the emergency clinic after a fall on the ice gave me a broken nose. I'll try to get those measurements tonight for you.

The measurement across the outside of the bed roll (O.D) is about 1-7/8". I hope that helps.

Thanks very much for your help. I hope you are getting over your fall. The ice and low temperatures in my area have been brutal as well.
Thanks again

Yep, I'm still young so I heal faster. I can't wait for this up and down weather to go away!
