I am about to connect wires from my temp. gauge (red light and green light)to existing temp. sender. The connection on sender looks like a nail head that sticks out about 1/8" What connects the two wires to the sender? From manual wiring diagram it looks like a plastic connector but the NAPA parts store guy didnt know what I was talking about. Also, I'm curious about how one wire could indicate cold and the other hot when they are connected to the same place. Anyone familiar with the wiring set up.
Thanks!!!

You got the wrong sender, the one for the cold/hot lights has 2 terminals. Brian

Thanks Brian,
The dark green and light green wires were cut off at the firewall with the mentioned sender in place. I also have a one terminal new sender. If I connect the dark green wire (red light)only will that be ok to just show if engine is too hot?

Well, I don't really know. The sender for 64-66 w/guage will prolly not register correctly for a light, but a light WAS used on 67-72 w/o gauges-one of those might work, but there again GM changed from 30 to 90 ohm instruments in 67 on trucks. If you can't find a correct "Cold-Hot" light sender, lemme know I have an extra. Brian

The one with the nail head is for a gauge. It will not work for a light. Your parts man should be able to come up with the right one if you tell him it,s for a light.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I ordered a two terminal temp sender at NAPA.
Brian, thanks for the offer to send one. My dash was set up for lights and the engine for gauge senders but now I finally got it straight. Look at how much you can learn by fixing things done wrong the first time.
