The starter pedal linkage mount on the bell housing cracked during reassembly.

Any ideas for repair?

Clean all the paint off the bellhousing for at least 2 inches (50 MM) around the crack, then drill and tap the broken piece sideways between the two bolt holes for a 6 MM bolt to hold it in the proper position, aligning the crack exactly. It might be a good idea to clamp the piece in place around two short bolts to be sure the thread pitch is right. Then use an acetyline torch and a flux-coated brass welding rod to reattach the broken piece. Build up the brass repair 6-8 MM thick all around the bottom and sides to reinforce the broken spot. Next time, be sure the bolts don't bottom out in the holes, which is probably what broke it in the first place. If you need to re-tap the bolt holes due to misalignment of the threads, the size is 1/2"-13.

Since its just cracked you might want to simply drill all the way through the bell housing and use a longer bolt/nut to keep it in place. Use a copper washer on under the nut and snug/from it to the top of the bell housing. Just make sure the clutch housing is not rubbing it.

If its broken off then I would epoxy it. Cast iron really likes epoxy.. clean the mating surfaces with acetone, let dry, epoxy.

Hy Shaanxi, I agree with everything Hotrod Lincoln said, but I think the bolt holes are 3/8"-16, not 1/2"-13, at least that is what all of the ones I have encountered were, hope that helps, and Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all, and thanks for the input. I will take this advice. As I don't have the heavy duty welding gear, I do know an exceptional metal fabricator here. I will take it to him, and have him follow these steps.

It is great to hear that at least it is repairable.

Yes, I think that's correct. I was thinking of the bolts that attach the transmission to the back of the bellhousing. Thanks for the correction!
