Just struck a deal for this 55 Chevy low cab forward,it has the big back window and a holmes wrecker, just needs a small block and some brake work, should be a handy truck. Anyone driving from Pheonix AZ to Denver with an empty trailer big enough to haul this porker?

Neat truck! thumbs_up That's a Holmes 525 Boom/Winch unit with a 828 Service Body. The truck will weigh in right at 10,000 pounds.

Do you have all of the front sheet metal and hood latches (those items are LCF only items)? Engine/trans and brakes are all easy stuff!

Thanks for the model info on the wrecker and the service body, I was wondering what they were.
The hood and latches are all there along with the bumper, the complete engine is missing along with the heavy duty radiator.

I remember it now. Nice truck and it looks very restorable, but you may remember that I was telling you that it is not actually a '63. It is either a '64 or a '65. Most of my books are Chevrolet, but if you post the VIN Number, or the first part of it anyway, I'll try to decipher it for you.

I used to drive a truck similar to it. It was a '62 GMC 6500, 478 V-6, 5-Speed Trans, 2-Speed Rear, Spoke Wheels, 10-20 Rubber, Air Brakes and a GVW of 32,000.

Nice truck. Those Holmes 525 units are good wreckers, I've owned three of them. Did you purchase it directly from Tow Truck Marks? They have a '47-'53 Chevy COE Holmes W35 Wrecker also. Are those holes in the hood ? Saw two of those '55-'57 LCF hoods on ebay recently.

The shop I bought it from is a custom fab shop in Phoenix ,I'm not sure what the holes are for in the front of the hood?
Hoping to get it picked up next week.

Once you get the truck home, look on the passenger side mast for the 525 tag and down on the bottom front corner of the service body on the passenger side for the 828 tag. Both of these tags are brass so be carefull scraping them to see the numbers...I'd remove them and clean them with solvents or paint remover so as not to damage them.

Having the hood latches is a big bonus!

Are there any towing accessories or tools in the tool box?

Thanks for the heads up on the tags,I'll definitely be looking at preserving what I can.Not sure about the tools maybe some are there,I won't know till it gets to my place.
The truck is getting picked up on Jan 7th and will be at my place by the 9th.

I was going to throw a small block chevy back in the truck, but.... I've been looking at the 'W' series big blocks 348 409 427 motors, more torque and power plus they look great with those scalloped valve covers,it'll make a nice rumble too.Dress it up with some finned aluminium valve covers.

Well the 55 LCF wrecker is now safe and sound at my place, this is a big lump of kit, Mike B ID'd the wrecker body and boom correctly, its a 525 boom and a 828 service body.
Here's some more pictures from today when it was delivered.I pushed it with my plow truck 1/2 a mile along the road from where we unloaded it to my house and up the driveway,I chained the 'Brute' to the plow so I could stop it,with my buddy Bruce steering, never a dull moment I guess!!

It makes the Yukon plow truck look tiny.I'm looking forward to getting it moving under its own power.

That's going to make a nice looking wrecker. Straight wrecker body, & the rear fenders aren't mangled up like they normally are. Someone sure cranked those booms up high. look to be about 1 1/2 to 2 ft. higher than they need to be. I've owned three Holmes 525 Chariot Body Wreckers. Do you have the service body top rails? I don't see them on the body. I may have an extra Ernest Holmes Wrecker Catalog, if you need one.

Thanks,If you have an extra catalog I could use it.I'm new to the Holmes wrecker stuff,I'll have to swat up on all the pertinent info. The boom needs new winch cables and the end pullies on the boom are missing along with the tools/crank handle/s.

I'll look to see if I have a Catalog close to your year, I know I sold a 1955 catalog a few months ago. I have several correct crank handles also, if you need one, so you can crank those booms down some. I had an extra set of 525 hand rails but sold them back last spring. They are unique to the 525 models. If you don't find any, the round W35, W45, 490, & 515 rails will interchange.
