I've looked , but haven't found coil-over front shocks for a Task Force tuck. I have a 1957 NAPCO and would like a set of front coil-over shocks with chrome coils if possible. I think that with the 348 that will be installed over the winter,(replacing the much lighter 283), coil-overs may be a good idea. Has anyone found a source for them, (for Task Force trucks)? Thanks,
don

The problems I've encountered with coilovers in general involve putting ssuspension loads on areas not engineered as weight-carrying points. A shock absorber mount is designed to mainly withstand a pull, not a push as a spring-assisted shock will give. Shocks are usually intended to compress easily, then resist the rebound of the spring. I'm pretty sure you'll need to do some serious re-engineering of the shock mounts, top and bottom, to avoid damaging those areas when you start using them as weight-bearing points.

You shouldn't need any additional spring rate with the engine swap. Even with the additional weight of the 348 (approx. 620 lbs), it is still lighter than the base model 235 6 cylinder (approx. 635 lbs) that the suspension is designed to handle.
