Quick question: I have a 1954 3100 6 volt truck. Does it matter or is there a difference between a 6 volt light switch and a 12 volt light switch. I think it doesn't matter!!!! but Am checking here.... Peter

Peter,

The stock switch would work fine on 12 volts. The only caveat would be if it has on-board circuit protection of any kind. A fuse or thermal would be rated for current flow at 6 volts..this might not offer proper protection for lights etc at 12 volts.

If it does have a fuse or some replaceable type of protection, it would have to be scaled down to cover 12 volts.

Peter,

The 1954 6v light switch works fine at 12v for all the components that were normally connected to the light switch (mine has worked at 12v for over 8 years). I assume this is also correct for pre-1954 light switches - they are slightly different but are often used interchangeably by changing the knob/stem - the knob stems are different lengths and there might be other internal differences.
