I'm in the process of trying to remove the seat riser of my 53 suburban in order to replace the floor. The front and sides are held in by spot welds (which I removed). How does the back of the seat riser connect? I'm guessing that it bolts to the cross support where the cab transitions to the wood.

I checked on tech tips but I did not find any info listed on this. Any help would be great.

I just looked at my 1951 Chevrolet suburban seat riser.Looks like mine is spot welded along both sides and front.There is a cross brace behind the seat riser that runs the width of the cab.There are two spot welds on each side attaching to the cross brace.I see no other spot welds and no bolts on mine.

Thanks Tim. That is how mine looks and I have removed all of the spot welds that you mentioned. I cant figure out what holds the back of the seat risor. I was thinking that mabe it is held in by the carriage bolts that are running through the rear cross brace. ONly a guess thats why I'm asking for help.

There are no bolts showing on my cross brace. Must be some spot welds your not seeing.

part of the support of the rear goes under the trim or cap where it makes the transition to the rear section. I had to cut mine to remove it for repair and plan on welding it back in lace then install the seat riser.

Will do once I figure it out. So far all I have to show for myself is a bunch of drilled out spot welds. The riser is still in place. I might get a chance tonight to work on it some more.

May be simpler to just cut it out from the bottom,, and go from there.
Ive never seen an under seat section that needed that much work to where it needed the top cut off.

I figured it out. Cutting it out from the bottom would be just as difficult. Here is what I found out. There is a rear channel that spans the back of the cab. The back of the seat risor is welded to this channel. This is all covered by the wood for the back of the suburban. I used a Sawsall to cut the seat riser loose from the channel. You will notice that I also cut the top trim peice as well thinking that would help (which it did not). i will need to remake one anyway as this one had some bad rust through.

If you look closly you can see where the metal seta flange goes underf the wood and is welded to the back channel.

In the end I won. Now I can repair the edges of the seat riser and put new floors in. I will make my own floors as the kits that are out required work to weld up holes for stuff that I dont need for my application.

I know of a guy that's going to make that lower section without the top of it. He ordered a die to make the beads with his bead roller.If you should need it made,let me know and well move this to the parts for sale section.
