Well, looks like I need to replace my gas tank. Any advice on where to buy, and exactly what to ask for?

How important is authenticity to you? How important is saving money? If you are in the Cleveland area, any Lake Erie boat shop can fabricate a tank identical to the size of the one to be replaced with the float hooked up to the gauge

I had a radiator shop cut mine open (3 places) bead blast it. Weld it closed and then use the gas tank coating. About 200.00 as I recall. New tanks are about 400.00. The cuts are on the bottom. You have to remove the tank to tell.

I just replaced the fuel tank in 46' pick up with a reproduction tank from American Classic Truck Parts.
It needed a little adjustment of the flange corners and some slight grinding of the flange in places for a good fit but all in all it seems to be well made. I also had to drill an additional 1/2" hole in the bottom of the truck to accommodate a pipe port in the tank which would not allow the tank to lay flush on the floor. I'm pretty happy with it. About 375+ shipping.
