Hello, my 49 Chevy is sitting on a 79 el camino frame. I recently got new tires and rims and when I install them they are touching on the frame I then install spacers and they touch the outside of the fenders. I am going to replace the springs does anybody know from which truck they would fit. Thinking maybe s10 or so. Thank u guys in advance

Sounds like your tires are too fat. How will different springs help you?

All I need is 3 inches higher. I guess that the bed of the 49 is heavier than the el camino one

Even if I were to install smaller tires I would have to raise it

Maybe the back spacing of the wheels is off. Just a thought

It sounds like something is the issue with your setup, and you're trying to remedy it by raising the back end instead of fixing the actual issue. If you give more info on your setup, wheels/tires, backspacing, tire size, etc., and maybe what was on there before and what you're trying to accomplish, we might be able to help you.

If you bought new rims is it too late to return and get proper offset? Another solution is spacers come in many width sizes can you go to slimmer size? If can't return see below.

My chev is a 49 suburban but I am currently building a 46 Dodge on an 83 el camino frame. I bought some 15" rally style chev wheels at a swap meet and had to put in 1" spacers to keep tire from hitting frame due to the offset. Tires are "centered" width wiase in fender. I built a 1" square tube frame with enough height to make the floor level of bedsides sit on the "arch" of the rear kickup where the floor originally was. Then you can bolt/attach the bedsides to the tube frame at whatever height looks right to you. You will lose about 4-6" of depth in the bed doing this but my dodge will be a grocery getter and not a hauler. Hope this make sense as another way of solving your issues.
