Newbie questions. I bought this last night for $500. Hopping I did ok. Motor turns by hand. The hand brake works great. Not sure if it's been converted to 12 v so I haven't put a battery in yet.
Everything looks to be original and intact. Minor surface rust.
Only problem I've encountered is the brake pedal is stuck! It's stuck up and will not budge. Any ideas? It's a 51 6100. Thank you

Welcome, rgunnz! I don't think you got hurt with this deal! Nice truck! I've only seen a couple of these,(in junkyards),where the pedal is stuck. But I'd think that either the linkage to the M.C. is "froze",(rusted),or your M.C. piston is stuck. Hope this helps.

Looks like a nice find. You can start by taking the cap off the master cylinder and take a look. If its empty and rusty, time for a master cylinder.

Rgunnz,

I agree on the Master Cylinder, probably the piston is rust-frozen.

For what it's worth, I know you'll be going through this carefully, but note that you've got a vacuum line going nowhere from the manifold, looks like it isn't capped. That's a vacuum leak waiting to happen. It was probably for the wipers.

Also, I'm not totally sure, but I think that's a Carter W-1 carb, and GM had shifted to a Rochester carb for these by '51. Doesn't matter, I actually like the Carter better - doesn't leak gas everywhere like so many of the Rochesters, BUT GM did spec. a few more HP with the Rochester. Anyway, thought you'd like to know.

Congratulations, that's a great find! You'll have a good time.

-Michael

NICE truck for 5 bills !!! The engine looks to be original which would lead me to believe it's all still 6 volt.
The open vacuum fitting on the intake may be for the 2 speed axle too...seems like mine is bigger but I don't have the original engine either... ohwell

its really hard to find a truck for 500 with an engine in it, so an engine that isn't stuck is a huge plus. great find grin
