Is there a way to reduce 12 volt to 8 to charge a 6 volt battery? I decided to sell my F*&^ 9N and the battery has gone dead. I don't want to buy a 6 volt charger since this tractor is my last 6 volt machine.

You would need a resistor of some kind -- A Runtz-style would probably do the trick.

That having been said, I'd probably not try it.

Most 12v chargers have a 6v setting.

At least, all of the ones that anyone in my family has ever bought do.

If yours doesn't, your FLAPS has some cheapies that will do both. It never hurts to have a spare. grin

Jump it to get it started. You can jump a 6 volt with a 12 volt battery. The starter will spin like a top.

I'll try it tomorrow. I put the tractor on craigslist and go a call within 20 minutes. I guess I should have tried to start it before I put the ad in.

I've jump started 6 volt tractors with 12 volt many times.
I've always done it so only the starter gets 12 volt juice. Attach neg. cable on the downstream side of the starter solenoid and the other to the chassis. You can probably get more info about this at: www.ytmag.com
