Hi all!

I'm a new member picking up a 1956 GMC 1/2 ton this weekend as a trade for a car I'm selling, and I'm in need of some advice for the best/easiest/safest way to lower the truck a few inches. I've been searching and reading on the forum, but I can't seem to make up my mind on which way to go.

I'm leaning towards a monoleaf lowering kit like this (http://www.performanceonline.com/19...it-Stage-1-Mono-Leaf-Springs-and-Shocks/), which offers a 3" drop in the front and a choice of 4" or 6" drop in the rear. I want the truck low but not slammed, and I want it to sit about level to the ground (no rake).

Would a 4" drop get me level to the ground, or do I need to go as low as a 6" drop?

When I do mine I will use Nostalgic Sids seems to be very respected as a recourse on this site.

Assuming that you now have the truck, take a look at the existing springs to see how much sag they currently have. My original front leafs on my 55 were flattened out to almost horizontal. When I put on my monoleafs, I only got about 1 inch lower because the originals were so flat. It worked for my purpose. See what you have to start with, then you can look at your options - drop spindles, drop axle, etc. to get you where you want to be.
