Click on link below to view Photo: Toque Tube welded on TabI have seen these Tabs on a lot of 1947-54 Chevy 1/2 Ton Torque Tubes. I always wondered what they were for? Its for the E-brake return spring. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 | | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,310 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,310 | Since the torque tube doesn't rotate, the only balance this tab would provide would be in a wicked Richard Petty multiple rollover he had late in his career. You need to see a video of it if you haven't already.

I had two theories, First was to protect the lip of the torque tube as it was separated from the transmission as it's tendency is to drop down and in a hurry, and Second (and I felt was my better theory), tied in with the mystery key shaped hole un the cab floor under the seat. I envisioned some sort of lock to hold the driveshaft up when there was no engine or transmission to keep the truck frame mobile.
