The engine is a 54 235, it still runs good but the oil pressure is getting low and a blue snake is coming out the tail pipe when I step on the gas.I see some Stovebolters run engines with shims.But remember back, there was a discussion(heated),saying shimmmed engines are "junk".The machine shop tells me shimmed 235 engines are not a problem, he used to do a lot of them.What do you say?

[ in your lifetime anyway ] . | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 | Shimmed mains work fine, if they are properly done. However, a good machinist can grind the crank to match a set of bearings. It takes a little more work, since the bearings must be set in place, miked, then the crank ground. Must crank grinders simply grind to specs in a manual.
