Was wondering if someone can give me some advice on attaching my chains to the engine. I will be using a chain hoist and rolling the truck under the engine to set it in, but not really sure what bolts I need to use to lift engine. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 566 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 566 | Here is what I did. I used 3'6" of 3/8" and I unbolted the last bolt going into the head (closest to the firewall on the carb side) and I used the bolt hole on the front of the motor besides the thermostat housing. Just make sure you get the threads all the way in and use washers. My cherry picker was a one ton lift from HF that worked for me. Just go slow.

The motor weight less than 700lbs total and each strap only sees about 350.. well within their rating.
I use a gantry crane to lift it off the dolly and if it doesn't lift level I set it down and readjust the length of the straps.
I've found the gantry MUCH more useful than an engine hoist.. and it only costs slightly more than a 2 ton hoist.
