On my 1949 3800 DRW Flatbed, I'm considering moving the fuel tank from behind the seat to under the flatbed between the framerails.

Has anyone done this with an off the shelf (or out of the junkyard) gas tank? Wanting to do it similar to how a newer model flatbed truck would have the filler neck run up under the flatbed down to the tank.

I don't think I want to mess with having a tank built. I know I don't want to try my hand at it. I have a 6400 parts truck with the tank on the outside of the framerail. not sure I want that either.

Mostly, looking to get the tank out from the cab for storage and an increase in capacity.

under seat storage has interior lamps that light when doors open. 2 under dash, 1 between the seats. old seat support was cut allowing 2 cutouts and full access to additional storage. the seat was changed to a modern 3 row back seat from a ford Aerostar and it folds down. it fits inside the stock seat frame w/ little modifaction.

I would go the saddle route myself, just personal preference as there is much more room to work with. I am doing it in the future on my '63 C30 dually.

Wherever you decide to put it, try looking at fuel cells on www.summitracing.com There are lots of places that sell tanks and fuel cells but Summit gives you the option to narrow your search results by dimensons, which is very helpful when trying to find a tank that fits within a certain area.
