What does the spark plug look like... 1. Now. If you were to pull it as it sits. 2. What's a NEW plug look/smell like after an attempt?
Also was the 'blue spark' from the plug wire to ground or the plug itself to ground?
Are you getting any signs of combustion?

If you get some fire with the points gapped and clean plugs you may get some indication at least if it wants to fire. then new plugs if it'll run.
