Hello,I just joined the forum. I own a 64 I ton dually that I need to buy tires for. It has 18x7 wheels. Can someone please tell me what my options are or what you are running? Thanks!

I'm going to give you the response you don't want to hear but the best option for tire availability would be to go to a 16" wheel. Assuming you have the 8x6.5" bolt pattern (which I don't see why you wouldn't) you can use bud wheels from and Chevy, Dodge or pre-99 Ford dually. That's what I did on my 63 1 ton dually to get a great selection of tubeless radials. I personally went with 235/85R16s because it is one of the most common dually sizes.

I did a quick online search and it would appear there is a very good tire selection available for 18" wheels but tires for 16s were considerably cheaper.

Try www.tirerack.com and see if you can find what you're looking for but don't be surprised if you can get a better deal at a local tire shop. (shipping charges on six tires add up real fast)

Just a note; you can't use ford wheels. Your truck has hubs machined for a 4.56" hub bore, and dually wheels are hub centric. Ford wheels will physically bolt up, but use a much larger 4.88" hub bore.

FWIW, GM also started using a 4.60" hub bore in 2001.

Also, (AFAIK) some 235/85r16's will work, and some won't. Lots of debate on the subject; just google "235/85 dually" . The general consensus seems to be that most will work OK, but will rub under heavy loads.

Crap! I just found 6 wheels cheap, but they are Ford wheels. Oh well. Thanks for the heads up, I really appreciate it!! Guess I need to find some GM wheels.

Will the 16" wheels w/4.56 bore fit over the old truck's drum?

OK, I found a set of seven 16" wheels with good tires on them from a '79 Chevy dually. Before I purchase them, can anybody tell me for sure if they will fit over the '64 C30's original drums? Thanks!

I have Accuride 28177's off a later truck on my '63 (same ones that are on my '74 dually); they clear the brake drums just fine.

I think it's 47-54 (and maybe 55-59?) duallys that used larger diameter brakes that wouldn't clear later 16" tubeless wheels.
