I have a 36 1.5 ton chevy truck. Oil pressure dropped suddenly to zero. I checked with another gauge, same result. The oil pump screen is clean. Cannot find a rebuild kit for pump or a replacement pump. Any suggestions ? Could it not be the pump ? Help !

something broke, it might be the distributor as well, either the little tab broke off, or the gear is spinning on the shaft. A pump usually won't just stop pumping due to wear. It would be more gradual over a period of possibly a couple of years.

Make sure the pump is turning. Pressure going to zero suddenly doesn't make sense. Have you dismantled the pump to see if the gears are intact? Also check the distributor for damage to the drive tang.

I'm with others here, your pump is not the issue, but it's easy to check.

The 1936 oil pump has a screwdriver slot at the top of the shaft that the distributer drops into. Pull the distributer out, but before you do that mark the position of the rotor so you know where it needs to be when you replace it (don't turn the engine over with the distributer out). Put a long straight bladed screwdriver shaft on a drill and run it CW and see if you can make oil pressure.

Inspect the distributer shaft while it's out.

If all looks good there and the drill makes pressure, remove and disasemble the oil distribuition valve located on the drivers side of the block, it could be blocked with a piece of trash.
