I doubt anyone would of painted them because the truck is pretty much unmolested otherwise. The truck had lived its life on a farm until recently. Also the radio speaker and glove box door are not what you would expect on a Korean era truck. Wondering about the possibilities that the Oakland plant could of been using older parts from their parts bins?? This truck still has all its factory green glass in it sans the windshield with 35,000 miles on the odo. http://www.nloc.net/photopost/data/2692/medium/0205.JPG

The raised ribbing on my 49's radio speaker cover and glovebox door were either chrome or polished and matched. Maybe there was brown paint inbetween the polished ribbing but it's hard to tell. When I put the elbow grease on them to try to clean them up it removes everything down to the base. I do know that the ribbing wasn't painted. Same w/the ash tray. I recently picked up some parts off of a 50 3100 and the speakergrill cover is painted w/the brown color that matches the original color of the interior. It is fully painted much like yours. I didn't get a glovebox door w/the parts so I don't know what the finish would have been.
Can't help w/your 1st question, on my 49 the entire door(s) are painted brown.

It's possible but doubtful that 1951 parts were still in parts bins in 1953?
It is hard to be assured that any truck is "unmolested" (unchanged parts) after 60 years.

They are not and we're never painted silver on any of the AD trucks. As Tim said 60 years is a long time in the life of a vehicle. One can quickly see in the picture the radio is not correct, so other stuff will follow as well. | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,059 Renaissance Man | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,059 | I don't know what the radios looked like for the 53, but it looks to me that his radio is what they put in earlier ADs, except that the knobs are wrong and the maroon bezels are missing. The dial housing is sun-baked so that it isn't maroon anymore. I agree with the other statements about unmolested. I will bet everyone who has ever bought one of these old trucks is guilty of wanting their trucks to be original in some way or another.

I was able to go out and do some detective work today, those pieces were indeed repaints, I found the original color underneath the silver. The ash tray had been repainted too. Looks like the glove box panel was stripped clean of paint and polished. Does anyone know if under the original painted glove box door if it was indeed stainless?? But then my truck seems to be an assortment of parts from different years.
