What do I need to look for in a 6 Volt COIL for my 1929 ?? This is for a stock 6 Volt Electrical System on my 1929 Chevrolet.
Starter: Delco-Remy 714-L
Distributor: Delco-Remy 633-G
Generator: Delco-Remy 943-J

From what I have found so far in my research about Stock Delco-Remy 528-C Coil:
Voltage: 6 Volts
Primary Reistance: 0.5 - 0.9 Ohms
...(Connector to Connector)
Secondary Resistance: 5k - 10k Ohms
...(Connector to Tower)

Read something about a Ballast Resistor ?? Do NOT think I need one for my Application

Found These Available, Stated as 6 Voil Coils, but no Coil Specs:
Allis-Chalmers.............0236481..$25.....Tractor Supply Company
BWD........................E5.......$25.....Advance & O'Reilly
BWD........................E5P......$20.....Advance
BWD........................E70P.....$28.....Advance
Delco......................U520.....$30.....RockAuto
Standard Motor Product.....UC14.....$20.....RockAuto
Duralast...................c809.....$17.....Autozone
Echlin.....................IC7......$28.....NAPA
Echlin.....................IC7SB....$13.....NAPA

Found Specs on this One:
Airtex Wells...............5C1063..$20.....RockAuto
.....Voltage: 6 Volts
.....Primary Reistance: 1.0 - 1.4 Ohms
.....Secondary Resistance: 5.5k - 9.5k Ohms

Anyone Using any of these or have recommendations ?? Do not want to blindly test one out and do damage to my 1929.

I see you posted over on the AACA site also. Your answer may come from them as they are more in tune with the neat really old cars.
I see no reason for a ballast resistor. The coils with a higher primary resistance will lower the current drain from your system so I see no harm in that. The spark voltage will also be reduced somewhat. If starting is not a problem then I would just go with the one that most closely matches your old one.

I got a coil from TSC. The package said made in USA, but the coil said made in China on it. The coil seemed kind of cheap made, the case was a flexible plastic. Didn't seem to work that well either. Bought a coil from NAPA worked much better.

I would recommend an Echlin IC8 6 volt coil. I used that on a 1922 American LaFrance and it is what I use on my 1936 GMC. Been a while since I bought one but I can't imagine that it is more than $30.

Have had a few guys tell me to stay away from the ones at TSC, really cheap... Quality that is, short life span.

I was able to find that NAPA Carries the Echlin IC7 but no listing for a IC8 ??

Also Talked with my Local O'Reilly s they have the BWD E5 6 Volt Coil in stock all day for about $22, think I will swing by and take a look n see. May stop over at NAPA as well to see what they can do for me.

The IC8 may have been superseded by the IC7, I will check the NAPA store close to me, it has been about 8 years since I last bought one.

Ok, let me know what you find out ...

Talked to the locals here at NAPA they have the IC7 instock for $27 and can get the IC7SB for $14

IC7 has a 3 year warranty and is Echlin Brand
IC7SB has 1 year warranty and is Mileage Plus Value Brand
