I have finally finished an alternator conversion in my '59 3200 w/235. Everything works except when I step on the starter pedal. I get nothing.
I know it worked once because I cranked it once after the install. I installed the MAD kit and added the remote solinoid. I get the 12v on the battery side(direct connect). When I turn the key on i don't get power on the other terminal to starter. I have a purple wire from ign switch but it only puts out 6v. A blue wire that connects to the small terminal on the starter. I disconnected the amp gauge and installed a volt meter.
When I first finished the install every time I turned the key the solinoid would click. Now nothing, Any help!! | | |

I'm not familiar with the MAD kit, but assume you are using the remote solenoid to switch battery voltage to the foot starter (why).
Would it be possible the coil in the solenoid is burned or open. If the purple wire is the pull in for the solenoid coil, maybe it is shorted to ground and that is why you are only showing 6 volts. If the solenoid doesn't 'click' when powered, it isn't getting voltage or it is defunct. Some of the solenoids have a manual button on top that allows you to close the switch by hand!

The great thing about a foot starter is that you can put on your seat belt (with both hands) while starting it up. Can't do that with a hands-on key starter.

Your post indicates you "step on the starter pedal", but the solenoid kit I saw on the MAD site is for key start starters..solenoid type starters, not stomp type starters, which I assume fits your description. I obviously have no idea what is going on, but that's par for the old course. What's the scoop!  Stuart | | |

Did you connect the wires to the amp. gauge together? Current runs through an amp gauge. You can hook the pos. of the volt gauge to the same connection & ground the neg.

If this type of solenoid were wired to be ON when the key was ON, it would fail in short order...maybe even with smoke and flames!
There is a part of the information puzzle that is missing from the original question.

I had a problem with a column-mounted horn button, and ended up using a 60A starter button for my horn instead. No problems there!  | | |

The original foot starter has almost no wiring associated with it...two battery cables, and 'maybe' a small wire for coil voltage during start. If MAD is as service oriented as has been hyped, they should supply complete wiring diagrams plus tech help if need. Alan Hovarth provided a name and number for tech help...I would use it. Good luck.
