This subject comes up often and I would like to see the different carriers in one post for future reference. Whose got some nice detailed pictures of their tire carriers? 1/2 * 3/4 * 1 ton, suburban and panels. I will look for some of those that have already been posted, but I could use some help. Factory photo's are good too.

WORK IN PROGRESS:

I need some confirmation on if the 1/2 Truck shares the same Tire carrier as the 1/2 suburban. Can anyone show any differences if there are any? Thanks

Denny Graham's Album - Tire Carrier Installation

Tire carrier:

A bit of research yeilded this:
The 3681633 strap is the same 1946 to 1950 ½,¾ TON (CAB, PICKUP, FFC). The Track is different, 41-50 ½ TON uses a 3658388 Track and the 41-50 HR (CAB w/PICK-UP, PANEL) used the 3658432 Track.

The 3697278 cross strap is the same 1951 to 1953 COMM but is replaced in later parts books by 3703308, which list the 3703308 strap as the same 1951 to 1957 COMM (exc. SUB.PICK-UP) cross (44 5/8 O.L. ). The SUB.PICK-UP was the 1956-57 model 3124 (Suburban Carrier/Cameo)

In the earlier parts book for the 54 COMM there was a 3704266 diagonal cross strap (14 holes 5/16) but it looks like it was also replaced by the standard cross strap 3703308.
I see no listing for straps or tracks which are the main carrier parts for the SUB.CARRY-ALL in either the 1929-54 or the 1929-57 parts books. Is it possible that the spare was carried inside the truck?

How about a modern conversion:

carolines truck

Because we're gettin older and I really wanted mine on the fender, so did the ms's ...
we didn't do this tech conversion, so I put it here back under and feel much better about when the time comes and Caroline is alone having to change the darn thing out
she CAN
I have a very simple crank down cable

To operate the rear spare tire and DON'T HAVE to groval in the wet/snow/mud/rain/dirt 10 days or 10 years from now to lower the spare tire when she gets a flat && she can also. Which is where MOST put their after-market gas tank.
THAT's what makes all this work
say you do the fender tech thing and later on you want a different tire, and maybe it won't fit that fender work you did.... what then
IT's a whole game plan when you think about what it is, when one does work to a truck that we'll keep forever .... YOUNG
