After rebuilding the pressure plate and clutch I could only find one way to install the linkage. However, when it was all assembled I had to adjust the linkage to it's max and still the pressure plate would not disengage. I see it separate slightly when the pedal is completely pressed, but with the engine running it is if I wasn't even pressing the clutch. I haven't gotten around to purchasing a manual yet and I'm wondering if anybody has some pics of an assembled clutch linkage or a link to a manual illustration.

As for the throw out bearing, the fork is grabbing it with the actual bearing making contact with the three diaphragm spring fingers on the pressure plate.

Did you compare the new to bearing to the old one to make sure they were the same length? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 127 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 127 | I installed the same pressure plate after it was rebuilt. The gentleman I bought this truck from had gone through it ten years ago and then basically parked it so I checked the bearing for smooth operation and re-used it.
What I'm thinking is the place that rebuilt the pressure plate made a mistake somewhere.
Anyway to check where the diaphragm spring fingers should be with the clutch and tranny installed?

A 2 ton truck should have a 3 finger / lever type pressure plate in it. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 127 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 127 | It is a three finger lever type pressure plate. I was just going by the terminology that is on the manual which is linked on the second reply to this post.

Where I went wrong was using the same throw out bearing. I took the pressure plate to the gentleman that had rebuilt and started explaining my problem when he interrupted and asked if I had the correct throw out bearing. I told him I used the same one that came off. Just like I told Don Stocker on this post. He came back with: "That doesn't mean it's the right one, even if it WAS working before." So I headed to O'Rileys auto parts and sure enough the correct throw out bearing is longer/wider whatever, and presses deeper into the pressure plate. Thanks guys.
