Got the exhaust run and my split manifold on. Still need to tweak it a bit but I figured out where a major leak was and sealed it up.


Dusty That camper is killer!

I put my new speedo cable in and that fixed the problem. A little rattle around fifty mph...wondering if I should oil or graphite this new cable?

broke down, cleaned, rebuilt, and painted some engine parts. Also broke down old springs, cleaned them up and painted with a coat of primer. Installed new main leaf and installed them.

Installed a new inside day/nite rear view mirror.
Installed those door latch clips and they actually work, tightened both doors up when closed, no rattleing now.
Installed a seat belt rewinder to keep it from flopping out.
Installed a proper battery hold down, no more bungie cord.
Rigged up an easily removeable drink holder that clamps under the dash next to the heater switch. I likes my coffee on my morning runs and a "dope" on my evening cruises

All were just some creature comforts that took care of some minor but nagging detractions from my otherwise highly enjoyable and more frequent cruising

I would like to see some pics of that drink holder as I could use one for my 37 and wondering how to make one.

It's an el cheapo window hanger cup holder that always got in the way hanging on the door. It works much better clamped under the dash.

Slow weekend at work. I brought in the windshield frame and sanded and cleaned it. Polished up some parts . Set up the shop to repair the Hydrovac with some help from one of the tech tips.

I am going to take one made for a boat and do what you done,they are made of chrome and might be a more permanent installation.

Should work good.
I have a chrome boat cup holder on my old Wheel Horse.
It swivels and does a pretty good job of keeping my coke level. But the little old tractor really shakes it up LOL.
I didn't want to add any chrome in the 3100 until I get the dash complete, it would stick out like a sore thumb otherwise

Cleaned and repaired both front doors on my 53 burb, then mixed up some primer, and sprayed out both doors and the qtr panels. Will start putting things back together tomorrow! Also called on a 52 AD pickup that showed up on CL today.

Oil Filter lid did not seat and had oil everywhere.

Welded up about 50 holes in my firewall, finished installing the king pin caps, squared the new rear end and got it bolted down. While I had it up on the lift, went ahead and mocked up the rear sway bar and pulled all the old brake lines and wiring out. Now I'm trying to get the kids into bed. I can't decide which is harder work!

I got the 37 running better today,it seems when I was chasing down the rattle in the motor I backed off the timing thinking it could be spark knock but never bumped it back up after I found the rattle. No wonder I never liked to drive it much the last couple years as it was slow,the flywheel does not have a ball or a place it went so I had to time it by ear so its time to do something about that and I am suprised it did not run hot.

1949 Chevy 3600 pickup

Installed cigarette lighter so I can charge my cell phone.

I need to install one in my 37 so I can power up my portable satelite radio.

Yesterday, I got the front clip bolted on the cab. Including upper hood brace.
Got the upper hood brace straighten and welded back together. Removed all the
zip ties I had holding the front clip together for mock up and actually bolted
or screwed it all together. Tonight we are making the mounts to hold the core
support to frame. Its starting to look like a truck.

Cleaned the shop. Then removed the right door. Bottom hinge rusted solid. Top hinge, the hinge pin never installed correctly! Pin made top hole, completely missed part going into door portion of hinge. Had to cut springs to remove it. 1951 absolutely no wear on pin or hinge hole, amazing.

Bored hinges for oversized hinge bushing. Had to build-up much of the hinge parts to correct for severe corrosion, the grind and file.

A friend of mine, held the punch while I used a very long handled sledge hammer with the door hinge in a large vise to get that pin out. After 60+ years, it was very stubborn. If you have a very brave friend, a really accurate hit to the exact place, you can get them loose, otherwise you may end up drilling them out. I took the 'friend' route because its very very hard even with a good drill press to get that bit to follow the very center of the pin. Especially since there is no really good reference. The hinge is modeled such that there is no square reference to go by. Hats off to those who have been able to drill them out. I have been successful in doing it, but not 100% of the time. When I find myself going wrong, I just stop, get out the PB Blaster, and slow down a bit. Havent ruined one yet.

I also learned that if the spring hole is warbled or not completely clean, the spring can slip, so I have sometimes welded the hole shut and redrilled the hole a little deeper and cleaner. Fun stuff!

Got pin out of correctly installed just fine, torch for heat, pin pinch and hammer.

Today I found the thrust plate on the incorrectly installed hinge pin was missing. SO machined a new one, welded in, line bored.

Now rust treat all the parts paint and reassemble.

Got my OG 47-53 grille guard cleaned, somewhat polished, installed and looks good.

Brought the 37 home from the storage garage to tinker with it this winter.

I like the look and the hole was already there.

I'm changing out the 216 for a 235. The old engine has a crack in the block. So the front fenders are off, everythings disconnected except the last things holding the torque tube in place. Over the coming months (or years, or decades) I'll install new wiring too and rebuild or replace the steering box. That learning curve is pointing steeply uphill these days.

Looking good Dad and a good looking light. I just wish mine had the hole already drilled. I'm afraid one little mistake drilling might muck up the look.

took the S-10 spindles and lower control arms for the Danforth crossmember install on my Sub to the powder coaters. Also bought complete set of new control arm bushings and new tubular upper control arms. Hope to get started on the install soon.

I had the template for the light I have, unity s-6
The template didn't match the hole already on my truck
So I just used the existing hole and had to turn the outside bracket.

But even with the template it looks like the drill angle would off.

I'm glad I used the existing hole even though the location may be a bit High.

Replaced battery ground cable. Then I took truck out and picked up some firewood.

Drove the 37 to a small swapmeet today and played with the timing some more,the thicker oil did not quiet the rattle too long as its back so I will have to make a decision on a motor soon.

Took out my spark plugs and opened the gap up for the Pertronix and high voltage coil. Ran out of time when I installed the pertronics. #2 plug must have been dropped, it was completely closed gap. A few almost felt cross threaded, little rusty. Reset timing and went for a drive in the 50 GMC 450 firetruck. Ran a lot smoother. Also got my dash lights working, had to spray the rheastat contacts with WD40. Turned green. Also got my wiper arms back on and the switch arm to the vac motor installed. Got wipers now. Tried to remove screws holding tranny cover on. Only 3 came out, will drill the rest and try easy out. Also hit the front bumper with a coat of gloss black rustoleum. Much better than rust. That's all.

Truck sat all summer. Now that it's cooling off here in sunny south FL, I figured I'd better get back on it. The 8v battery the PO installed has finally died so I pulled it out and started cleaning up the tray. Also pulled battery cables and the starter. Had been having some trouble with the starter and battery last spring so figure I'll replace it all.

Replaced the hand throttle cable. The old one was corroded so bad it wouldn't budge. Took me two days to replace it. After trying for a few hours to loosen the nut on the back of the dash (corroded also), I had to give up. I'm not as limber as I once was, and laying across the seat and hanging upside down under the steering wheel took its toll on me. Finally decided to cut it off from the front side of the dash. The new one went in with no problems, and I've finally got it back together. Hopefully we'll have a few days of warm weather left to where I can get the radiator hoses replaced and new antifreeze put in. One thing at a time.

Fixed a leak at the fitting where the copper line that feeds the rocker shaft attaches near the distribution valve. ...again.

Got the interior of the cab painted on the 57 GMC COE. Tried to keep it the original color. It turned out a beautiful turquoise. The Dupont rep. mixed it for me using the old original code. He missed it by several shades, but looks good. They are only "Original" one time anyway. Ready to start putting everything back in the dash and the glass. Doors next.

Installed delux fresh air heater, in the 53 Burb. Re-installed both front door glasses, then road tested, heater works great.

On my way to pick up my new-to-me Saginaw 4spd with a Patrick's AD shift kit!
