I've upgraded my 65 C10 to power steering. As I'm installing the pitman arm, I realize the drag link is touching the frame. It also look like the DS inner tie rod joint might hit the frame also. I have not torqued it all up yet just in case I have to break it back down.

My parts are as follows...

Rez PS adapter plate
1975 PS gear box
1975 Pitman arm
1965 original drag link
1965 idler arm

Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone tell me if there is difference in the drop on the K6131 and the K6143 pitman arms? If there is, this might be my issue? I purchased the pitman arm from Oreilly's and they gave me the K6143.

Issue solved. Once I torqued it all up there was clearance.

BTW, if you upgrade to PS and your new 73-87 PS unit does not come with the Pitman Jam nut, don't waste your time with Oreillys, Autozone, Advanced, Napa or the local Discount Auto parts stores. Go straight to Fastenal. Get a 7/8-14 Jam nut part# 1136268 $1.20 and 7/8 split washer part#113364 $0.44.

Steering stuff can get pretty arcane at times. The KEY here is MOST '63 - '87 pieces will interchange as long as you stay in the same series; C-10, C-20, C-30. Somewhere around 1970, the A arm bushings changed from bronze to nylon/plastic. Some time around 1980, GM switched from SAE to metric/o-ring fittings on pumps and steering boxes. Power steering MUST have the matching pitman arm, and manual steering MUST have it's specific pitman arm. No exceptions. Idler arms SEEM to all be the same, but there are several part numbers. I personally like to get everything I can from a doner truck and rebuild what needs it in order to keep all the pieces the same year model, but that is just me. I have been told that there are different tie rod end sizes within the C-10 series, but I have NOT run into this.
