The wiring is right at the sending unit -- a ground and wire to the fuse box and then to the dash gage. Cant tell if it is wired right at the back of gage -- chances are it is. Does this indicate a problem with the gage itself?

Showing full when the key is on indicates a bad circuit. The default position is full when the circuit is incomplete (broken wire, bad ground, etc.). There have been tons of discussions about similar problems. Using the search at the top of the page will save a lot of rehashing. Good luck.

I found some seemingly excellent information at [email protected]. I'm trying to complete someone elses 6V to 12V conversion and needed some guidance on installing a runtz voltage reducer. In doing so, I found the troubleshooting gas gauge problems.... writeup. Good Luck.

My priority list is long and what keeps my truck on the road comes first but I'll get to it again eventually.

If so you will have to put a voltage reducer right before the sending unit so your 12v gauges will read it correctly.

Too bad I didn't know you were going to order a new sending unit because I have the sending unit that came with my new gauge set that I didn't use that I could have let you try. Although if you have the same size gas tank that I have in my 46 this may not fit. If it is deeper then it would have worked for you.
Where are you located?

I used a sending unit from jc whitney before to check a gauge on a 56 buick and ended up leaving it in the tank because that's what was needed and it worked fine. They are adjustable but if it does not fit that's ok -- it's good to have one lying around just in case...
