I have a steering column from a '74 Buick in my '49. I replaced the neutral safety switch and as soon as I tried to start it a wire burned. Had to install a push button switch to start it. What I need to know is just where do the 2 wires plug onto this switch? There's several places. Think maybe I plugged into a wrong one and made the wire burn. Also, which spot would be the one to hook up backup lights? Thanx

I used a caddy steering column... i checked where each wire was supposed to go according to the OEM diagram, then checked it with a multimeter to make sure it was doing what it was supposed to do... no burned wires.

Another quality post.

pablos, there should be 2 prongs on the left side of the switch, one on top of the other. This is the ones you want . the other prongs are in the middle of the switch, side buy side, and they are for the backup lights.Hopes this helps!

Thanx Hot Rod. That's the info I was looking for. I'm going to rewire it this spring and I wanted to make sure I knew where everything went. My goal is to pass the NSRA safety inspection. Why? I dunno, maybe 'cause it's there!

pablos, glad to help, and the NSRA safety program is really a great thing. Every car,or rod I,ve built(15)? has passed it. Just makes you feel good to know it does!!!
