It's leaking. Not a lot but it leaves a drop wherever I stop. Finally got the right stuff to fill it and was wondering how best to flush out the old oil with the box still in my truck. It's a bit of work to remove it and maybe there is an easier way. Was thinking I could flush it out with kerosene but don't remember seeing a drain plug. Can I remove a bolt on the front bottom row and the filler plug and let it drain then flush it and refill? Will this work? I think you can pull the lowest side cover bolt and drain most of it out. What did you use in the box?

But if it's oil like, you need to drain. Undo the front plate. It's sitting down hill so it will drain. Put the bearing back has you found it, make a new gasket if old is damaged. They don't leak with correct lube. Now some trivia: I use 90 Wt gear oil and chassis grease, mixed to peanut butter. You need the oil and the grease. I "pack it" about 90% full.......Book says "bring level up to filler plug opening when in operational position". Then I cycle it to crush air bubbles, to fill all cavities and to obtain 90% full. The only lubes available now are John Deere corn head grease, Penrite (hard to find), Lubriplate Mag 00. I make my own. I always take them apart and clean/inspect/adjust them anyway. Let us know what you bought as the "right stuff". Good nite.

Apparently, there was too much oil in my mixture. I have recently found a Penrite source and purchased their "Steering Box Lube". Thanks | | |
